Apple launches Safari 3 for Windows

Apple have launched  a Windows version of Safari 3 which it claims is the fastest browser on Windows, capable of rendering pages up to twice as quickly as Internet Explorer

It's not often a new web browser is launched, but when they are its certainly worth having a look how your website performs in them.

Analysts are not so sure that the Safari 3 browser will revolutionise web browsing on Windows PCs, due to most websites being optimised for rendering in MS Internet Explorer.

Apple has claimed that Safari is the fastest browser on the Mac, and now Apple is offering some benchmarks so it can back up its claims about that speed on Windows.

According to iBench tests -- conducted on an iMac 2.16-GHz Core 2 Duo system running Windows XP -- Safari can load and draw web pages up to twice as quickly as Internet Explorer 7 and up to 1.6 times as quickly as Firefox 2.

Safari 3 also features SnapBack, one-click access to an initial search query, resizable text fields, and private browsing to ensure that information about an individual's browsing history isn't stored.

Safari 3 supports all modern Internet standards, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SVG, and Java. Safari software updates are delivered through Apple's Software Update application, which automatically checks for updates.
